Job description

The Car Buyer is responsible for all activities related to purchasing non-private party vehicles for PnP. They will bid on and purchase vehicles from outside vendors, coordinate with tow vendors for delivery to the correct sites, and work with the store to ensure proper payment. Additionally, they will negotiate pricing with vendors and seek new purchasing avenues.

Essential Functions:

1. Supply vehicles for all PnP facilities by bidding and purchasing from outside vendors.
2. Review towing and vehicle pricing for accuracy.
3. Verify vendor checks for proper amounts.
4. Recruit new tow vendors through internet and local business outreach; explore opportunities with non-profit and fleet services.
5. Serve as the primary contact for local tow companies for vehicle transfers.
6. Relay market activity and scrap prices to Regional Purchasing Managers to ensure competitive purchase prices.
7. Ensure vehicle purchasing volumes are achieved.
8. Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
9. Comply with safety policies and report unsafe activities.
10. Participate in team efforts to meet departmental and company goals.

Qualifications:

• Experience in vehicle purchasing through direct or indirect channels.
• Knowledge of vehicle types, makes, and approximate values.
• Two-year degree preferred but not required.
• Proficiency with computers, Outlook, and internet applications.
• Ability to travel and drive long distances.
• Own vehicle and valid driver’s license.
• Insurance levels meeting company guidelines.

Physical Activities:

• Ability to stand, walk, sit for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity for handling items.
• Climb, balance, talk, hear, and perceive depth and peripheral vision.
• Perform light to moderate physical activities.

Job Conditions:

Occasional exposure to indoor and outdoor environments, including weather and moderate noise levels.
