Job Description
The Used Car Buyer is responsible for prospecting, appraising, and presenting offers to vehicle owners to purchase their cars for resale. This involves engaging with potential sellers, appraising vehicles, and utilizing Sonic Automotive's inventory management system.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Interface with current used vehicle owners from multiple sources to purchase vehicles.
- Approach, greet, and appraise vehicles offered by dealership customers.
- Utilize Sonic Automotive's automated inventory management system.
- Understand and stay updated on market trends in the geographic area.
- Support dealership Sales Associates in purchasing used vehicles.
- Attend daily trade walks and maintain a high level of guest satisfaction.
- Comply with all applicable laws governing retail automotive sales.
- Set personal income goals aligned with dealership standards and develop strategies to achieve them.
- Participate in product and sales training as scheduled.
- Stay informed about new products, features, and accessories.
- Explain vehicle depreciation, equity, and values to guests.
- Introduce guests to sales personnel for new vehicle sales following vehicle purchase.
- Maintain owner follow-up systems to encourage repeat and referral business.
- Develop and maintain a prospect development system for used vehicle prospects.
- Attend sales meetings and maintain a safe, professional work environment.
- Focus on guest satisfaction and ensure positive experiences.
- Ask questions and listen to determine management, production, and quality requirements.
- Participate in company meetings and follow-up systems.
- Review and analyze daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly actions for improvement.
- Keep updated on industry terminology and technological changes.
- Follow supervisor instructions, work rules, and procedures.
- Interact positively with colleagues and guests to boost morale.
- Educational requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
- High customer service standards are required.
- Must be able to read, comprehend instructions, and demonstrate the ability to pass pre-employment tests, including background checks, MVR, drug tests, credit reports, and possess a valid driver’s license.
