Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks reliable Security Officer 1 to protect state-owned buildings and support safety for all entrants in Harrisburg. Responsibilities include access control, public assistance, patrols, emergency response, vehicle screening, and facility oversight.

Full-time position based in the Bureau of Police and Safety, Capitol Police Division. Telework is not available; shifts vary and include 7:00 AM–3:00 PM and 10:15 AM–6:15 PM.

Qualifications

• You must possess a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle operator's license.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
• You must pass a background investigation.
• A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
• Veterans’ employment preferences apply in accordance with Pennsylvania law.

Responsibilities

• Building Access Control: Monitor entrances, check identification, and ensure only authorized individuals enter designated areas.
• Public Assistance: Provide directions, answer questions, and assist employees and visitors within assigned buildings.
• Security Patrols: Check doors, lighting, equipment, and building conditions to identify hazards or unauthorized activity.
• Emergency Response: Contact emergency services, administer first aid, and support safety procedures during critical situations.
• Vehicle Screening: Observe and log vehicles entering the Capitol truck roadway and conduct visual and hand wand inspections.
• Facility Oversight: Verify the security of sensitive storage areas and report fire or safety hazards to proper authorities.
