Job summary

Akzo Nobel in Waukegan, IL seeks an experienced Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Manager to support regional projects. You will define scope, engage end-users, and coordinate engineering resources for reliable, safe, and cost-effective capital initiatives.

The role requires a BS in a related engineering field, 5+ years leading CAPEX programs, and proven supplier management. Travel and SAP-PM experience are preferred, with strong MS Office skills and English fluency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5 years' experience leading and managing multiple capital expenditure projects.
• Must have proven experience managing suppliers.
• Experience in paints and coatings industry or chemical manufacturing preferred.
• 3 years' asset reliability management experience.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multiple CAPEX projects.
• Must be able to travel.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with SAP-PM or similar CMMS.
• Fluent in English; bilingual skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Manager in the preparation and execution of regional projects.
• Develop user requirements specification (URS) document.
• Identify and activate Global Engineering resources and standards to ensure optimal solutions.
• Capture technical needs in collaboration with facility representatives.
• Select suppliers based on criteria and bidding outcomes.
• Decide contracting model with Procurement.
• May manage an internal or external Engineering team.
• Provide Reliability Engineering direction and reliability initiatives management.
• Lead Asset Reliability improvement projects including root cause analysis.
• Provide project status updates to Engineering management to minimize risks.
• Ensure optimal safety, quality, planning, and cost management.
