Job summary

The Outreach Team in Torrance, CA is seeking a Lead Director to build and manage field operations for a California State Assembly campaign. You will train canvassers, lead by example, and drive office goals.

The Lead Campaign Director will oversee Deputy Directors, build an office from the ground up, and report to the Project Director. Local candidates preferred for Torrance area.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for Directors to engage with voters, and drive the success of field operations on a campaign for a California State Assembly candidate.

The Lead Director is expected to train canvassers in the field while canvassing themselves to lead by example; they must also communicate long and short-term goals to staff and manage campaign reporting. The Lead Director manages canvassers and Team Leads and reports to the Lead Director.

Additionally, the Lead Campaign Director will manage a team of one or more Deputy Directors and will be responsible for building an office to scale from the ground up. The Lead Director position reports to the Project Director.

Canvass Management Responsibilities

• Manage a team of 40–60 hourly staff who will canvass door to door to talk to community members about local clean energy storage projects and build community support for a reliable, affordable energy future
• Canvass yourself several days a week to train staff and drive office goals
• Set goals and hold staff accountable to them
• Train and provide ongoing motivation and support to staff
• Identify, promote, and train a leadership team
• Build a diverse team where staff feel respected while fostering a culture of equity and justice
• Implement quality control measures to ensure the integrity of the work
• Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all staff
• Develop strategic plans to reach targeted constituents in assigned locations
• Manage administrative duties, including reporting data, record keeping, processing payroll, and distribution of materials

Qualifications

Must Have

• Leadership experience; ability to motivate, grow, and manage a large team
• Eagerness to lead from the front and canvass several days a week
• Extreme attention to detail and a proven ability to instill that quality in others
• Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills
• Strong passion for community organizing and fostering civic engagement
• Track record of equity and inclusion
• Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends
• Car and valid drivers license

Nice to Have

• Experience running paid canvasses or managing paid employees
• Familiarity with PDI
• Experience working in underserved or marginalized communities
• Facilitation experience
• Local knowledge/experience

Salary

The salary range for this position is $1,352 - $1,575 per week. We offer a generous benefits package, including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and hands-on training. At the end of the campaign, there may be opportunities for advancement and bonuses.
