Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking an Oncology Data Specialist (part-time) to accurately abstract and report cancer patient information for the hospital's cancer registry. You will locate and review pathology reports, oncology consults, and treatment summaries to ensure complete data submission to national databases in accordance with NYS DOH rules.

Qualifications include an associate degree and ODS-C certification, with at least 1 year of healthcare experience.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required with certification in Oncology Data Specialist (ODS-C).
• Completion of pre-employment documentation and professional references.
• Knowledge of New York State cancer coding standards and health data concepts.
• Excellent data entry and writing skills for high-volume workloads.
• 1 year hospital/healthcare experience is required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred and leadership experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support Cancer Program accreditation by completing documentation for NYS DOH.
• Perform case finding by locating internal and external cancer-related records.
• Abstract data accurately into the registry software per guidelines.
• Respond to abstracting errors promptly to maintain data quality.
