Barnes & Noble College is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to help lead the campus store alongside the Store Manager, delivering exceptional customer experiences and driving business results. The role covers team development, merchandising, inventory, sales performance, and campus relationships.

You will lead daily operations, coach staff, and ensure standards are met while supporting a diverse campus community. Flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends is required.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of retail experience with at least 1 year in leadership or supervision preferred, or completion of Aspiring Leader Program.
• Experience with retail operations, merchandising, inventory management, visual merchandising, and customer service.
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
• Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with retail technology and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily sales floor operations by delivering exceptional customer service, coaching team members, and fostering a customer-first culture.
• Partner with the Store Manager to oversee daily store operations, serve as Manager-on-Duty as needed, and ensure standards across merchandising, inventory, and store presentation.
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, schedule, and develop store team members, providing ongoing feedback and building a high-performing team.
• Drive sales and operational performance by analyzing trends, managing expenses, and identifying improvement opportunities.
• Build strong relationships with customers, campus partners, and team members while resolving concerns professionally.
• Develop expertise across store departments and provide leadership in Course Materials, General Merchandise, Café/Convenience, and Trade Books.
• Manage merchandising, inventory, stock replenishment, order fulfillment, and sales transactions to maintain an organized, customer-ready environment.
• Champion a clean, safe, and organized store environment with consistent operational standards across all departments.
