The role requires 2+ years in retail leadership, strong communication, and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of retail leadership or buying experience preferred, or successful completion of the Barnes & Noble College Aspiring Leader Program.
• Demonstrated leadership experience recruiting, coaching, developing, and motivating team members.
• Experience with retail operations, including merchandising, inventory management, visual merchandising, customer service, and sales performance.
• Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with retail technology, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the daily operations of an assigned department by delivering exceptional customer service and coaching team members.
• Own department performance by executing business strategies, driving sales, managing inventory, and monitoring results.
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, schedule, and develop department staff to foster collaboration and accountability.
• Partner with store leadership to support overall operations and corporate priorities.
• Build relationships with customers and campus partners, resolving concerns professionally.
• Lead merchandising, inventory management, and visual presentation to ensure product availability and a customer-ready department.
• Analyze department metrics to forecast needs and improve performance.
• Champion safety and loss prevention practices, ensuring compliance with policies.
