Job summary

Barnes & Noble College is seeking a Department Manager to lead the daily operations of an assigned department and to foster a customer-first culture. You will coach team members, manage inventory, and execute merchandising strategies across campus store operations.

As part of the store leadership team, you will drive sales, monitor performance, and partner with campus stakeholders to deliver exceptional experiences for students, faculty, and alumni while maintaining safety and standards.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of retail experience with leadership, supervisory, or buying experience preferred, or completion of Barnes & Noble College Aspiring Leader Program.
• Experience recruiting, coaching, developing, and motivating team members.
• Experience with retail operations including merchandising, inventory management, customer service, and sales performance.
• Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily department operations and deliver exceptional customer service.
• Own department performance by driving sales, managing inventory, and monitoring metrics.
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, and develop department team members.
• Partner with store leadership to support overall store operations and initiatives.
• Lead merchandising, visual presentation, and workload execution to ensure product availability.
• Analyze performance and trends to forecast needs and improve results.
