Job summary

Indiana University Bloomington is seeking a seasoned public safety leader to serve as shift commander for the IU Police Department. You will supervise sergeants, officers, and civilian staff, coordinating responses to incidents and ensuring policy adherence across operations.

The role requires strong leadership, communications skills, and the ability to manage complex deployments while training personnel and maintaining procedures in a university setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 5 years law enforcement experience including 1 year in leadership.
• High school diploma with 8 years of law enforcement experience including 1 year in leadership.

Responsibilities

• Acts as shift commander and supervises sergeants, officers and civilian personnel.
• Responds to calls for assistance and assumes scene command of critical incidents.
• Communicates policy changes and new law enforcement techniques to personnel.
• Compiles data and prepares reports to support department goals and compliance.
• Plans deployments and maintains standard operating procedures.
• Performs patrol duties as needed and may handle specialized details.
• May be assigned specific detail such as education, compliance, or investigations.
