Job summary

The Maryland School for the Blind seeks a Director of Facilities to lead campus operations, safety, and long-range asset stewardship across a 96-acre campus with about 30 buildings. You will oversee maintenance, grounds, security, fleet, and vendor relationships, ensuring environments are safe, accessible, reliable, and ready to support students and staff.

Reporting to the Superintendent, you will drive capital projects, budget planning, regulatory compliance, and emergency management, while

Qualifications

• Ten years in facilities management or related field with at least five years supervising staff.
• Experience in a complex multi-building environment, preferably in education or healthcare-adjacent facilities.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, life-safety, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
• Ability to read blueprints, schedules, and project documents.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for campus operations, safety, and asset stewardship.
• Oversee maintenance, repair, custodial, grounds, and lifecycle management.
• Manage CMMS, record-keeping, and data-driven budget planning.
• Lead safety, security, and emergency management programs.
• Oversee capital projects and coordination with architects and contractors.
• Develop and monitor operating budgets and vendor contracts.
