Job summary

Merrimack College is seeking a Grounds Laborer to maintain campus grounds, gardens, and athletic fields, ensuring a safe, clean, and attractive environment for students and staff.

The role includes turf work, seasonal planting, leaf removal, snow/ice operations, and equipment maintenance, with on-call after-hours support during emergencies. A valid driver’s license and pesticide license are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required.
• Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
• Able to work well and communicate with others.
• Able to use equipment safely and efficiently.
• Fluent in English language and able to communicate with others.
• Higher Education, or multi-building property management preferred.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• A pesticide license is required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the appearance, care, and overall condition of all campus grounds, gardens, athletic fields, walkways, parking lots, and roadways.
• Perform turf management practices, including fertilization, irrigation, aeration, overseeding, and other cultural maintenance activities.
• Plant, maintain, and care for seasonal flowers and ornamental plantings in campus flower beds and decorative containers.
• Perform seasonal leaf removal and cleanup during the spring and fall to maintain a clean and safe campus environment.
• Mow, trim, and edge lawns and landscaped areas using appropriate grounds maintenance equipment.
• Perform snow and ice removal operations, including plowing, shoveling, and applying deicing materials, to ensure safe conditions on campus roads, parking lots, and walkways during inclement weather.
• Inspect, clean, maintain, and safely operate grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
• Assist with the collection, disposal, and recycling of campus waste in accordance with institutional procedures.
• Assist with the transportation, setup, and breakdown of furniture, equipment, and other materials for campus events and activities.
• Participate in the department's on-call rotation by responding to and resolving after-hours emergencies and grounds-related issues during inclement weather to ensure a safe and accessible campus environment.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and institutional operations
