Job summary

Vassar College is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Attendant to support landscaping, grounds, and athletic fields at the Main Campus. The role includes snow and ice removal, planting bed maintenance, and operating landscape equipment under supervision.

The position reports to the Grounds Manager and requires a valid driver's license, the ability to lift 50 lbs, and willingness to work overtime per seniority guidelines. This essential position is part of the SEIU Union.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience in the maintenance and care of grounds.
• Knowledge of, or ability to learn, irrigation systems programming and operations.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading, writing and speaking.

Responsibilities

• Maintain campus lawns and athletic fields.
• Remove snow/ice from walks, drives and parking lots.
• Control weed growth manually or by pesticide application if licensed.
• Maintain campus trees, shrubs, planting beds and irrigation systems.
• Operate grounds maintenance equipment (mowers, rototillers, etc.).
• Collect trash from exterior receptacles and perform litter collection.
• Respond to after-hour calls for snow/ice removal.
• Complete other seasonal tasks connected to grounds maintenance.
