Job summary

Smith College seeks a skilled groundskeeper to maintain turf, plant beds, irrigation, and campus landscapes across the Northampton campus. You will assist with pesticide applications and work under the grounds services manager to ensure health, aesthetics, and safety of outdoor spaces.

The role requires CDL Class B, valid license, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Prior turf management experience and OSHA safety knowledge are essential for daily operations on site.

Qualifications

• High school/vocational diploma, GED equivalent or combination of education and experience.
• Three years related experience in landscape construction/maintenance and turf management.
• Massachusetts Pesticide Applicators license or obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Massachusetts hoisting license or obtain within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Plant, fertilize, water, weed, trim plant beds and lawns.
• Assist with pesticide formulation, mixing and application per regs.
• Identify turf diseases and pests and suggest organic solutions when feasible.
• Maintain campus grounds incl. trees, shrubs, irrigation, and roads.
• Operate mowers and power equipment; ensure OSHA safety rules are followed.
• Safely drive college vehicles and inspect equipment before use.
