Job summary

Suffolk County Community College seeks an Assistant Director of Plant Operations for the Eastern Campus in Riverhead, NY. The role supervises custodial and building mechanical staff, schedules work orders, and ensures maintenance meets standards.

You will collaborate with Central Facilities, manage records, and support budget compliance while leading safety and training initiatives. Essential duties include on‑call emergency response, prioritizing multiple projects, and coordinating with faculty

Qualifications

• An Associate Degree or 60 credits toward degree, and 10 years in a leadership position overseeing mechanical maintenance and/or ground operations with at least 3 years of experience in the daily maintenance of a large complex facility.
• In lieu of an Associate Degree, at least 15 years in a leadership position overseeing mechanical maintenance and/or ground operations with at least 3 years of experience in the daily maintenance of a large complex facility.
• Preferred: maintenance experience in an educational environment; Civil Service experience; supervision of a unionized workforce.

Responsibilities

• Supervise plant operations staff, provide training, mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback.
• Schedule work for custodial and maintenance staff; inspect work for standards and codes; review work orders and assign tasks.
• Collaborate with Central Facilities to execute campus projects.
• Maintain records of work orders, equipment, supplies and employees; review timecards.
• Interview and recommend staff for hire.
• Provide training and on‑the‑job guidance on proper methods, tools and safety.
