Job summary

Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to administer and advance the College's safety programs across academic buildings, studios, shops, laboratories, and residences. The role focuses on chemical safety, hazardous waste management, hazard communication, PPE, respiratory protection, audits, and training.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related field and 2 years of professional EHS experience.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and fire/life-safety requirements for facilities.
• Experience communicating technical safety information to diverse audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and compliance records.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain EHS programs in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements (OSHA, EPA, MDE, codes).
• Develop and update EHS programs including hazard communication, hazardous waste, PPE, and fire safety.
• Coordinate inspections, training, permits, and reporting to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Maintain EHS web resources, SDS library, and chemical inventories across departments.
• Deliver safety training to students, faculty, and staff; maintain training records.
• Investigate incidents and near-misses; prepare corrective action plans.
• Collaborate with Facilities and campus partners on ventilation, IAQ, life-safety systems, and contractor safety.
