Job summary

Bowie State University is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator to lead compliance across environmental health, occupational safety, and risk management programs. The role reports to the Associate Director of Risk Management and focuses on developing and implementing procedures to meet regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include program development, training, incident investigations, and coordination with OSHA, MOSH, NFPA, ADA, ANSI, ASME, and external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental health & safety, industrial hygiene, biology, chemistry, or related field.
• Five years of professional work experience in EH, OH, safety, or related field.
• Experience with Loss Control strategies and OSHA regulatory oversight.
• General OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety certification required.
• HAZWOPER preferred; additional CSP/ASP/CHMM certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Research, analyze, and interpret local, state, and federal regulations; develop and update EH&S programs, policies, and procedures.
• Oversee testing, sampling, or surveys; maintain documentation and records; compile data and prepare reports.
• Develop and deliver training materials and programs on compliance and safety across university units.
• Design and coordinate workplace health and safety programs; respond to hazardous materials incidents and waste management.
• Maintain emergency management plans, participate in drills, and fulfill crisis response roles.
• Investigate incidents, report findings to regulatory agencies, and collaborate with facilities and local authorities.
