Job summary

Ball State University Dining is seeking a PT Food Service Worker on Ball State’s beautiful campus. The role supports food preparation and serving for students, faculty and staff with hours up to 28 per week. Wage ranges from $16.41 to $16.56 per hour, with a 08/27/2026 start date.

As a member of the dining team, you will undertake cashiering duties and assist with dishwashing, producing and serving food while maintaining safety and sanitation standards on a busy campus.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of Cashier Training Class and passing score on final test is required for positions with cashiering duties.
• Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and University policies, procedures and communications.
• No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, oven cleaners, or other materials or environmental factors in food service, e.g., steam, dust.
• Must have clean body, teeth, hair, nails, and clothing.
• Must be able to perform all physical and mental requirements outlined in each job duty/responsibility.
• You must be 18 years or older.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assemble supplies and set up service area; serve food as required.
• Hand wash and store pots, pans, and equipment.
• Clean equipment and work area maintaining sanitation and safety.
• Perform checker/cashier duties using computerized machinery, terminals, calculators, and maintain records.
• Greet customers to ensure positive relationships.
• Set up, operate and clean dishwashing machinery and related equipment.
• Scrape and wash dishes.
• Clean, prepare, store, and deliver fresh produce.
• Count and record amounts of food prepared and/or served.
• Grill or carve food as required.
• Obtain supplies from storage areas.
• Assist with laundry program.
• Wait and bus tables as assigned.
• Assign work to and direct student employees.
• Assist cooks in preparing food.
• Enforce all rules and regulations; report violations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
