The New School is seeking a Student Costume Shop Assistant for the Performance Operations – Costume Department. This on-campus role supports the Costume Shop Manager with stock pulls, maintenance of costume stock, and running stock pulls for faculty and classroom requests.

Ideal for students pursuing careers in costume design and technology with leadership and NYC garment district knowledge. Open to students with Federal Work Study awards; hourly rate is $18 and up to 20 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Recipient of Federal Work Study award.
• Basic stitching skills (hand and/or machine).
• Familiarity with fabrics and garment silhouettes.
• Familiarity with costume production and costume design.

Responsabilités

• Provide additional support during productions.
• Attend all shifts in person as scheduled by shop management.
• Assist fellow student workers as needed and overhires.
• Act as a shopper for shop management.
• Assist shop management with measurements.
• Take notes in fittings.
• Act on behalf of shop management in urgent or emergency situations.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.
