Job summary

The New School's Performance Operations – Costume Department invites applications for a Student Costume Shop Assistant. This on-campus role supports the Costume Shop Manager with stock pulls, upkeep of costume stock, and processing requests from faculty and classrooms.

Ideal for students pursuing careers in costume design and technology, especially with Federal Work Study. Responsibilities include assisting during productions, managing shifts, and supporting shop management with measurements and

Qualifications

• Federal Work Study award required or preferred.
• Basic stitching skills (hand and/or machine).
• Familiarity with fabrics and garment silhouettes.
• Knowledge of costume production and costume design.

Responsibilities

• Provide additional support during productions.
• Attend all shifts in person as scheduled by shop management.
• Assist fellow student workers as needed and overhires.
• Act as a shopper for shop management.
• Assist shop management with measurements.
• Take notes in fittings.
• Act on behalf of shop management in urgent or emergency situations.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.
