Job summary

UC San Diego is seeking a Program Manager to lead a suite of capital projects—ensuring they stay on schedule, within budget, and meet high-quality standards. The role involves coordinating design staff, engaging with clients, engineers, inspectors, and stakeholders across campus and health systems.

Under the Senior Director, you will manage architectural functions for new construction and major renovations, ensuring compliance with codes and safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in architecture, engineering, urban design, city planning, or landscape architecture.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Knowledge of planning, design, construction, environmental issues, laws, and practices governing planning, building design and construction.
• Ability to provide technical advice on construction practices and prepare drawings and specifications.
• Familiarity with California Building Code, Title-24, ADA, OSHPD/DSA/SFM requirements for hospital projects.
• Experience with cost estimating and managing detailed project budgets and payments.
• Strong leadership and ability to direct teams and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to negotiate terms and manage contracts.

Responsibilities

• Deliver projects on schedule, within budget, with high quality and cost effectiveness.
• Coordinate design and construction efforts for multiple projects within the program.
• Select design staff and coordinate activities of clients, engineers, contractors, inspectors, and others.
• Monitor progress, cost, and quality; resolve problems during construction.
• Communicate with campus/medical center stakeholders on budget, schedule and construction impacts.
• Provide guidance on web-based capital project management tools and software.
• Oversee daily operations and supervise project management teams to meet goals.
