Job summary

UC Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, CA seeks a Project Manager responsible for all aspects of Capital Improvement Projects, deferred maintenance, and major infrastructure upgrades. You will interpret contracts, hire consultants, develop plans, manage budgets, and coordinate with campus departments to obtain approvals and permits.

Responsibilities include leading design and construction efforts, ensuring life-safety compliance, and guiding projects through CA Building Code and university policies

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in project management of capital improvement projects.
• Experience managing new construction and renovation of office, classroom, laboratory, infrastructure, housing and/or athletic facilities, preferably within a University environment or other Public Works domain.
• Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, schedule, and budget, professional services and construction agreements, plans and specifications, and contractor coordination.
• Knowledge of business and fiscal analysis, processes, and techniques related to project management and ability to analyze data and make accurate cost projections.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to apply high judgment and discretion.

Responsibilities

• 80% Project Management – Design & Construction: develops documents with the project architect and consultants to meet environmental, life safety and building code standards; coordinates approvals with regulatory agencies; selects licensed professionals; develops schedules and budgets; monitors and reports on cost and schedule.
• 20% Project Management – General: represents the University on multiple projects, navigates policy and regulatory requirements, communicates with client groups, coordinates with campus departments, and guides project staff through all project phases.
