Job summary

Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota seeks an Operating Engineer to safely operate and monitor campus boilers, chillers, BMS, and related HVAC equipment across all facilities.

The role requires a minimum of 3 years HVAC/boiler experience, ability to work rotating weekends and emergencies, and collaboration with Facilities maintenance.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in HVAC and boiler operations.
• Ability to work rotating weekends and respond to emergencies.
• Collaborate effectively with Facilities maintenance department.
• High School diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Operate and oversee steam boilers and the steam distribution system.
• Operate and maintain campus chillers and chilled water distribution systems.
• Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC systems in all campus buildings.
• Inspect buildings to determine mechanical repair and maintenance needs.
• Assist the Chief Engineer in coordinating Heating Plant operations with other maintenance personnel.
• Assist in scheduling planned outages with campus stakeholders and contractors.
• Order, track, and maintain HVAC supply inventory; monitor Heating Plant expenditures.
• Maintain accurate records of labor, materials, time, and inventory.
• Review mechanical system plans for new construction during the design phase to standardize equipment.
• Prepare and submit work progress reports as required.
• Maintain a safe, clean work environment compliant with OSHA safety standards.
• Remain current with evolving equipment, technology, job responsibilities, and procedures.
• Provide professional and service oriented customer service to all customers and campus constituents.
• Other duties as assigned.
