Job summary

Cathedral in St. Cloud, MN seeks a Boiler Engineer / Maintenance staff member to oversee boiler operations and HVAC systems on campus. The role is full-time (0.75–1.0 FTE) with immediate start, pay $22.00–$26.00 per hour based on experience.

Responsibilities include operating and maintaining boilers, Univent systems, and chemical treatment programs; collaborating with Facilities to address major repairs; and supporting grounds, custodial, and event setup tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Minnesota Special Boiler License preferred (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
• Must obtain a Minnesota Class 1C Boiler License within 4 years of hire.
• High school diploma or GED required; related experience or training preferred.
• Basic proficiency with computers, email, and two-way radio systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, clean, and maintain boilers to ensure safe and efficient performance; recommend repairs, upgrades, and improvements as needed.
• Maintain Univent systems in proper working order; identify and recommend necessary repairs, upgrades, and enhancements.
• Monitor and manage chemical treatment programs for boilers and HVAC systems in compliance with OSHA standards.
• Communicate with the Director of Facilities regarding major repair needs, system issues, or equipment upgrades.
• Support or assume the responsibilities of the Maintenance Coordinator in their absence, as appropriate.
• Perform routine building maintenance and minor repairs across campus facilities.
• Assist with general grounds maintenance, including snow removal and debris clearing from sidewalks, entryways, and parking areas.
• Perform custodial duties as needed, including cleaning up body fluids and cleaning floors, hallways, offices, and common areas.
• Set up and move furniture and equipment for school events and activities.
• Assist with carpet cleaning and floor maintenance (e.g., scrubbing, waxing).
• Support campus security efforts as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Overview

The Boiler Engineer / Maintenance staff is responsible for maintaining campus heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, with a primary focus on boiler operations. This position works closely with the Maintenance Coordinator to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of campus facilities, equipment, and grounds.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to access and navigate all campus facilities.
• Frequent bending, kneeling, twisting, and lifting required.
• Work environment includes:
  • Frequent exposure to mechanical equipment and moderate noise levels.
  • Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, chemicals, airborne particles, and outdoor weather.
