Job summary

You will answer questions, decorate cakes, stock and sign items, check freshness, and ensure proper use of bakery equipment while providing friendly, knowledgeable help to customers.

Qualifications

• Retail experience in a customer-facing role.
• Bakery/cake decorating experience.
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Knowledge of basic math.
• Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Create an environment where customers feel welcome by answering questions about products.
• Gain and maintain knowledge of department products and make suggestions.
• Offer samples and prepare bakery items per customer requests using bakery equipment.
• Recommend bakery items to customers to meet their needs.
• Check product quality, review sell-by dates and use equipment properly.
• Decorate cakes, pastries and other bakery items.
• Label, stock, sign and inventory department merchandise.
• Report inventory/discrepancies to the department manager.
• Understand store layout and locate products for customers; stay current with ads.
• Maintain awareness of inventory levels and note discrepancies.
• Adhere to health, safety and regulatory requirements.
• Follow merchandising, service, labor, safety and loss prevention rules.
• Reinforce safety programs and report unsafe conditions to management.
• Inspect equipment and report repairs as needed.
• Report safety risks, incidents, theft or fraud; notify management.
