Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a motivated Substitute Food Service Worker to help run our cafeteria smoothly when regular staff are absent. The role focuses on supporting safe food preparation, service, and customer care in a fast-paced school environment.

A high school diploma is preferred; prior food service experience is a plus but not required. Candidates should be reliable, physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, and committed to food safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in food service or kitchen environment is a plus but not required.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations is preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
• A positive attitude and a willingness to learn and adapt to new situations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and serving of meals in accordance with established guidelines and safety protocols.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and dining areas, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of waste properly.
• Help with inventory management by receiving and storing food supplies, as well as monitoring stock levels.
• Follow food safety and sanitation practices to ensure compliance with health regulations.
• Support the regular staff in various tasks as needed, including setting up and breaking down food service stations.
• Provide excellent customer service by interacting positively with students, staff, and visitors.
• Assist in the training of new staff members as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager.
