Job summary

Shelby County Schools is seeking a dedicated cafeteria worker to prepare and serve nutritious meals for students and staff in a clean, safe kitchen. You will follow menus, read recipes, assemble ingredients, portion items, and help with bag lunches as needed.

You will monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure safety under HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitation of prep and serving areas, stock supplies, rotate food, and may operate a point‑of‑sale terminal.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Background check and TB test negative required.
• Minimum 6 months of quantity food preparation or related experience.
• Bachelor’s/Master equivalents are noted for degree equivalence but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals for students and staff per menu and recipes.
• Monitor and record cooking times and temperatures to ensure safety per HACCP.
• Set up serving lines and maintain cleanliness of serving area; provide adequate serving utensils.
• Assist in stocking supplies and monitor inventory; rotate food products as scheduled.
• May serve as cashier, operating a POS terminal; enter and retrieve data as needed.
