Job summary

The Arizona Humane Society is seeking a dedicated and motivated part-time Cafe Specialist to join our team at our Papago Park Campus. You will open and close duties, operate both the hot and cold service lines, and prepare drinks and menu items according to standardized recipes and procedures.

This role also operates the point-of-sale (POS) system to accurately create and close customer transactions, handles cash responsibly, maintains knowledge of all menu items and promotions, and delivers

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of experience in a high-volume kitchen or beverage service environment.
• Food Handler Card or certificate required.
• Experience in customer service and/or retail preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required.

A Day in the Life:

The Cafe Specialist is responsible for opening and closing duties, operating both the hot and cold service lines, and preparing drinks and menu items according to standardized recipes and procedures. This role also operates the point-of-sale (POS) system to accurately create and close customer transactions, handles cash responsibly, maintains knowledge of all menu items and promotions, and delivers exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate is adaptable, responds quickly to changing priorities, and thrives in a fast-paced environment while meeting the evolving needs of both the organization and its customers.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma/GED required.
• One-year prior work experience in a high-volume kitchen or beverage service environment required.
• Food Handler Card (or Food Handler Certificate) required.
• Experience in customer service and/or retail preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required.
• Must be able to handle food items safely and properly in a kitchen environment.
• Understanding of retail and cash handling operations required.
• Ability to learn/use POS software (for use with food service in a restaurant environment).
• Complete food preparation procedures according to written instructions.
• Ensure paperwork and data entry is completed accurately and legibly.
• Multitask and handle multiple, simultaneous orders.
• Keep necessary items and supplies adequately stocked and understand their uses and applications.
• Continue to expand knowledge of staff dietary needs and restrictions.
• Assist drivers with loading and unloading orders.
• Perform cashier duties; operating the register, completing customer transactions, and cash handling.
• Perform routine inventory checks and create vendor orders as necessary.
• Maintain knowledge of all available menu items, their ingredients, and their preparation methods.
• Create daily or weekly special menu items and order necessary items to execute them properly.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties and essential functions of this position, the employee is required to stand and walk for extended periods, up to ten (10) hours per workday. The employee will also be required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance on a ladder, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally bend, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold, and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors, and dander.
