Job summary

Invenergy LLC, based in Chicago, seeks a CAD-GIS Designer to support engineering teams across thermal generation, transmission, and utility projects. The role links CAD and GIS, develops 2D drawings, 3D models, site layouts, and data workflows to improve project lifecycles.

You will collaborate with permitting, development, and project management, applying CAD-GIS standards while learning new tech in a fast-paced energy environment. On-site at downtown Chicago office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of CAD design, GIS, or infrastructure development experience.
  • Experience creating 2D drawings and 3D models with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, Revit.
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro/ArcMap/Portal for geospatial analyses.
  • Experience with QGIS or Global Mapper is a plus.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel occasionally and work across teams.
  • Experience CAD-to-GIS integration and data management workflows.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • CAD Design & Engineering Support: Create and maintain engineering drawings and 3D models for thermal generation, utility infrastructure, transmission, and substation projects.
  • CAD Design & Engineering Support: Develop site layouts, equipment arrangements, P&IDs, and design packages in collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering teams.
  • CAD Design & Engineering Support: Interpret survey, hydrology, and site data to support project layouts, access planning, and engineering studies.
  • CAD Design & Engineering Support: Support project development and engineering activities from early-stage development through construction.
  • GIS & Data Management: Develop and maintain CAD-to-GIS workflows, standards, and data governance processes across engineering portfolios.
  • GIS & Data Management: Establish and manage data schemas, naming conventions, quality control procedures, and project data repositories.
  • GIS & Data Management: Collaborate with GIS and engineering teams to improve data integration, accessibility, and consistency.
  • GIS & Data Management: Evaluate opportunities for automation, scripting, and workflow improvements between CAD and GIS platforms.
  • GIS & Data Management: Prepare maps, technical exhibits, and project materials to support project execution and decision‑making.
  • Process Improvement & Technical Standards: Develop and maintain CAD‑GIS standards, SOPs, templates, technical specifications, and best practices.
  • Process Improvement & Technical Standards: Support preparation of RFPs, RFIs, scopes of work, and contractor requirements related to CAD and GIS deliverables.
  • Process Improvement & Technical Standards: Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through standardization, automation, and process improvements.
  • Process Improvement & Technical Standards: Communicate technical recommendations, workflow improvements, and project updates to stakeholders and management.
