Job summary

Southern Nuclear is seeking a Nuclear Engineer or Analyst for BWR Fuel Engineering at its Birmingham, Alabama office. The role focuses on reactor physics, core design, reload licensing, and licensing analyses to support two BWR units.

You will own technical products through reload design, licensing and operation cycles, collaborating with Fuel & Analysis teams and site organizations. Candidates may have various experience levels; entry-level internships or graduate work may be considered.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering from ABET-accredited institution required.
• P.E. license/certification required.
• Undergraduate Applied Science/Math degree plus MS in Nuclear Engineering (ABET accredited).
• Bachelors in Nuclear Engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform reactor physics and core design analyses to design, license, load, and operate BWR reactor cores.
• Oversee reload safety analysis and licensing activities, including evaluation of assumptions, limits, and licensing requirements.
• Monitor operating cores to confirm reactor performance, fuel exposure, and licensing assumptions.
• Provide fuel engineering support to site organizations during normal operation, outages, startup, and other plant activities.
• Coordinate and support the cycle reload process, including reload design meetings, special analyses, exposure accounting, and cycle management reports.
• Perform analysis and vendor oversight to support storage of spent nuclear fuel in wet and dry storage per regulations and licensing documents.
• Collaborate with site organizations, nuclear fuel vendors, and other engineering groups to resolve fuel- and core-related issues.
• Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization.
