Job description

Buyer

Fort Worth, TX (76177)

Temporary

$35–43/hr

Position is fully onsite, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

Kelly is seeking a Buyer to work with our client, a rapidly growing manufacturing organization in Fort Worth, on a temporary basis through the end of 2026. There is potential for the assignment to be extended beyond 2026 based on business needs, but an extension is not guaranteed.

The Buyer will play a critical role in supporting a rapidly scaling manufacturing operation. This position requires a highly resourceful, proactive individual who can work with a sense of urgency, navigate ambiguity, and respond effectively to changing priorities and time-sensitive needs. The company is working to manufacture a product in the United States that has not previously been produced domestically at this scale, creating an environment with frequent unknowns, tight deadlines, and occasional urgent purchasing needs.

The Buyer will:

  • Partner with the business and follow corporate code of conduct, policies, and procedures.

  • Drive timelines and meet tight deadlines while simultaneously managing multiple projects and competing priorities.

  • Work with suppliers to obtain quotes and evaluate them against the market to determine the most desirable suppliers based on price, delivery schedule, quality, and other relevant factors.

  • Negotiate commercial and legal terms in partnership with Legal and the Business to facilitate contracts with suppliers.

  • Review approved requisitions, create purchase orders, and manage the PO lifecycle from creation to closing.

  • Manage the purchasing of spare parts, components, materials, and other items needed to support manufacturing and maintenance operations.

  • Maintain consistent communication between suppliers and internal stakeholders and work collaboratively to resolve issues that could affect company quality and delivery commitments.

  • Monitor open purchase orders and proactively identify potential risks related to availability, lead times, delivery, pricing, and production requirements.

  • Respond quickly to urgent and unexpected purchasing needs, using resourcefulness and sound judgment to identify solutions.

  • Perform PO history research to resolve receiving and invoicing discrepancies.

  • Provide technical and expert counsel to internal customers on topics such as purchasing policies, purchasing processes, supplier sourcing, and SAP requirements for purchasing.

  • Assist the Purchasing Manager in improving purchasing operations through processes, communications, and performance, utilizing industry best practices.

  • Review suppliers for compliance with company quality criteria.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Finance/AP, and Supply Chain, to ensure purchasing needs are met.

  • Support the organization as production ramps up, including helping ensure critical spare parts and materials are available to support increased manufacturing activity.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation as needed. Weekend coverage is primarily to monitor communications and respond to urgent purchasing needs; occasional weekend PO placement may be required.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of related experience in buying, purchasing, or procurement within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Previous experience with SAP, preferably SAP S/4HANA.

  • Experience purchasing spare parts, components, materials, or other items supporting manufacturing or maintenance operations preferred.

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP.

  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and ability to find solutions when requirements, information, or circumstances are unclear.

  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritize and execute against tight deadlines.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth manufacturing environment with frequent changes and unexpected challenges.

  • Ability to remain organized, focused, and effective under pressure while managing multiple priorities.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

  • Strong organizational and team-building skills.

  • Time management skills necessary to successfully manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

  • Ability to make sound, timely decisions and take ownership of purchasing activities.

  • Ability to liaise with cross-functional employees and work effectively across multiple processes and procedures.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and offer solutions to problems or involve the necessary people to ensure the problem is properly resolved.

  • Ability and willingness to participate in an on-call rotation, including occasional weekend support.
