Business Development Manager – Precision Swiss
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
This position serves as a key resource responsible for driving revenue growth, developing customer relationships, managing technical sales processes, and supporting strategic business initiatives for a growing Swiss turn machining manufacturer. The role acts as the primary liaison between customers, engineering, manufacturing, quality, customer service, and leadership teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences while identifying opportunities to expand business.
This position is ideal for a highly driven, technically capable sales professional who enjoys building relationships, developing new business opportunities, owning the commercial process, solving customer challenges, and creating long-term value for both customers and the organization.
Compensation
- Base Salary:$85,000 - $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience
- Commission: Uncapped, growth-oriented commission plan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Business Development and Revenue Growth
- Drive business growth through a combination of new customer acquisition, account development, and relationship management.
- Identify and pursue opportunities in industries utilizing precision Swiss machine parts.
- Develop and execute strategies to increase customer value, market penetration, and revenue growth.
- Follow up on sales leads generated through marketing campaigns, trade shows, referrals, digital channels, and internal sales efforts.
- Identify and qualify new opportunities through prospecting and engagement activities.
- Develop account growth plans and work collaboratively with internal/external sales teams to achieve business objectives.
Customer Relationship Management
- Develop, maintain, and strengthen long-term relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Ensure exceptional customer satisfaction by proactively managing customer expectations and delivering responsive support.
- Act as the primary point of contact for customer inquiries regarding machining capabilities, pricing, lead times, tolerances, materials, technical requirements, and order status.
- Own customer issues and drive resolution through effective communication, collaboration, and follow-through.
Technical Sales and Manufacturing Expertise
- Become a recognized subject matter expert on the company's Swiss turn machining capabilities, precision manufacturing processes, and value-added services.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of precision machining, materials, tolerances, GD&T, secondary operations, and manufacturing best practices.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, tolerances and material requirements.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to ensure project feasibility and successful execution.
- Consult with customers on manufacturability, process improvements, cost-reduction opportunities, and production solutions.
Quoting, Pricing, and Commercial Ownership
- Own and manage the entire quotation process from RFQ receipt through quote delivery, customer follow-up, and order conversion.
- Evaluate customer requirements and gather all commercial and technical information required to prepare accurate and competitive pricing.
Marketing and Market Development
- Collaborate with marketing to refine messaging, customer communications, branding initiatives, and value propositions.
- Participate in market research activities to identify trends, competitive threats, growth opportunities, and customer needs.
- Provide feedback to leadership regarding customer insights, market conditions, competitive intelligence, and business development opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, sales opportunities, pricing history, quotations, and account activities.
- Track and manage sales pipelines to ensure timely follow-up and opportunity progression.
Continuous Improvement and Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, manufacturing, quality, customer service, and leadership teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.
- Identify opportunities to improve internal processes, quotation accuracy, customer experiences, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- 3-5+ years of experience in technical sales, manufacturing sales, business development, account management, precision machining sales, or related industrial markets.
- Experience selling Swiss machining, CNC machining, precision components, contract manufacturing, metalworking, or related manufacturing services preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with quoting, pricing strategy, cost analysis, and commercial decision-making.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering prints, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Experience using ERP systems; Microsoft Business central
- Excellent presentation, communication, negotiation, relationship management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced customer-facing environment.
- Valid driver's license
- Willingness to travel 30-50%
