Job description

Technical Sales Engineer – CNC Machining / OEM Components

Greater Chicago Area | Hybrid | Up to 50% Travel

Base Salary: $130,000–$150,000 + Bonus

Are you a technically credible manufacturing sales professional who can grow OEM relationships, win new component business, and guide complex programs from RFQ through production? Our client is seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to help expand its precision-machining and component-manufacturing business across strategic OEM accounts.

This is not a software-sales or commodity-distribution role. The successful candidate will understand CNC machining, engineered components, manufacturing costs, quoting, quality requirements, and the commercial realities of serving large OEM customers.

About the opportunity:

You will own and grow relationships with existing OEM customers while developing new business within targeted markets. Working closely with engineering, operations, quality, and supply-chain teams, you will translate customer requirements into practical, manufacturable solutions and keep programs moving from initial concept through delivery.

  • Grow revenue within existing OEM accounts and develop new component-manufacturing opportunities.
  • Build relationships with engineering, purchasing, supply-chain, quality, and operations stakeholders.
  • Review RFQs, drawings, specifications, and technical requirements; coordinate accurate, timely quotations.
  • Apply CNC machining and component-manufacturing knowledge to recommend practical, value-added solutions.
  • Lead customer programs from opportunity through launch, coordinating engineering, manufacturing, quality, and logistics.
  • Serve as a primary customer contact for technical questions, project updates, delivery risks, and issue resolution.
  • Support APQP and PPAP activities, including customer documentation and launch readiness.
  • Prepare proposals, presentations, account plans, and technical sales materials.
  • Travel to customer sites, plants, and industry events as needed—up to 50%.
Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in technical sales, OEM account management, applications engineering, program management, or business development within a component-manufacturing environment.
  • Direct knowledge of CNC machining, precision-machined parts, metal components, or contract manufacturing.
  • Experience working with OEM customers and navigating engineering, purchasing, quality, and operational stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting RFQs, quoting, pricing, or feasibility reviews for manufactured components.
  • Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, and quality-driven manufacturing processes.
  • Strong presentation, relationship-management, project-management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% throughout the Midwest.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or higher.
  • Experience in automotive, heavy equipment, industrial, off-highway, aerospace, or other complex OEM manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with new-product launches, supplier development, and multi-site manufacturing programs.
What success looks like:

Within the first year, you will strengthen key OEM relationships, improve RFQ and follow-up discipline, expand the qualified opportunity pipeline, and help move new component programs from quote to successful production launch.

Compensation and benefits:
  • Base salary of $130,000–$150,000, based on relevant experience and qualifications.
  • Performance-based bonus opportunity.
  • Hybrid work arrangement in the Greater Chicago area.
  • High-visibility role with meaningful influence on customer growth, technical solutions, and program execution.

Apply if you have a background selling or managing business for a precision machining, engineered-component, metalworking, or contract-manufacturing organization—and want a role where technical expertise directly drives revenue and long-term OEM partnerships.
