Job summary

PDS Tech Commercial is hiring a Swiss Machinist in Bloomington, MN. You will independently set up, adjust, troubleshoot, and operate multi-axis CNC Swiss machines to produce tight-tolerance aerospace components.

You will read blueprints, GD&T, and edit CNC programs, optimizing feeds and speeds. The role requires working with exotic alloys and a focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of CNC Swiss machining experience.
• Independently set up and operate multi-axis CNC Swiss equipment.
• Fluency in G & M codes with the ability to read, understand, and edit CNC programs.
• Strong knowledge of tooling requirements, including tool presetting.
• Experience with machining mathematics, blueprint reading, measurement techniques, and GD&T.
• Ability to meet established quality and productivity expectations with minimal supervision.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong planning, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong PC skills, including proficiency with Microsoft products.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing safety requirements and safe setups.

Responsibilities

• Independently set up, adjust, and operate multi-axis CNC Swiss machines with live tooling.
• Manufacture tight-tolerance aerospace components from exotic alloys.
• Read, interpret, and edit CNC programs; work with G & M codes.
• Calculate and adjust feeds and speeds to maintain accuracy and productivity.
• Select, preset, adjust, and replace tooling as required.
• Read blueprints, layouts, job packets, and GD&T requirements.
• Troubleshoot machining and process issues; recommend solutions.
• Recognize unsafe setups or processes and propose alternatives.
• Collect and enter SPC data using comparators, CMMs, Trimos, gauges, etc.
• Perform daily machine maintenance and report needs beyond scope.
• Partner with engineers and quality teams for process development and continuous improvement.
• Participate in pre-production activities and program prove-outs.
• Recommend improvements to machining and setup procedures.
• Train and assist other operators; support quality and productivity goals.
• Perform secondary operations like deburring when required.
• Maintain accurate inventory counts and organized, safe work areas.
• Work across shifts to support production goals.

The Opportunity

As a Swiss Machinist, you'll independently set up, adjust, troubleshoot, and operate multi-axis CNC Swiss machines to manufacture tight-tolerance aerospace components.

You’ll play an important role in maintaining exceptional quality and productivity while minimizing waste and improving machining processes. Beyond running equipment, you’ll serve as an experienced technical resource by supporting process development, troubleshooting challenging operations, completing prove-outs, and helping train other machinists.

What You'll Do

• Independently set up, adjust, and operate multi-axis CNC Swiss machines with live tooling.

• Manufacture tight-tolerance aerospace components from a variety of metals, including exotic alloys.

• Read, interpret, and edit CNC programs and work fluently with G & M codes.

• Calculate and adjust feeds and speeds to maintain dimensional accuracy, quality, and productivity.

• Select, preset, adjust, and replace tooling as required.

• Read and interpret blueprints, layouts, job packets, and GD&T requirements.

• Troubleshoot machining and process issues and recommend effective solutions.

• Recognize unsafe setups or processes and recommend appropriate alternatives.

• Collect and enter SPC data using comparators, CMMs, Trimos, gauges, and other measuring instruments.

• Perform daily machine maintenance and communicate maintenance needs beyond your scope.

• Partner with engineers, quality technicians, and supervisors to support process development and continuous improvement.

• Participate in pre-production activities and program prove-outs for new products, tooling, and process changes.

• Recommend improvements to machining and setup procedures.

• Train and assist other operators while supporting departmental quality and productivity goals.

• Perform secondary operations, including deburring, during machine cycle time when required.

• Maintain accurate inventory counts and ensure parts are stored appropriately.

• Keep your work area clean, organized, safe, and efficient.

• Work collaboratively across shifts to support production goals and departmental standards.

• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Minimum 5 years of CNC Swiss machining experience

• Demonstrated ability to independently set up and operate multi-axis CNC Swiss equipment

• Fluency in G & M codes with the ability to read, understand, and edit CNC programs

• Strong knowledge of machining tooling requirements, including tool presetting

• Experience with:

• Ability to consistently meet established quality and productivity expectations with minimal supervision

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds

• Ability to stand throughout the workday, except during scheduled breaks

• Ability to safely operate the machinery and tools required for the position

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of a two-year degree in Machining Technology or a CNC machining trade school program

• Experience machining tight-tolerance components for aerospace applications

• Experience working with exotic alloys

• Advanced experience with multi-axis Swiss CNC machines and live tooling

• Experience supporting pre-production runs, program prove-outs, and new tooling

• Experience training or mentoring other machinists
