Business Development Leader

Our client is the pioneer of permanent magnet-based 3D tracking technology, providing ultra-precise 6DOF tracking for tiny sensors in real-time, at up to 1,000 times per second. We track the position and orientation of tiny sensors that are less than 1mm in size, with up to 0.1mm precision. Serving as a localized GPS for surgical navigation systems, our technology will eventually be used for a variety of digital transformation use cases, including virtual training, robotics, and human-machine interfaces.

We are seeking an experienced and driven Business Development Leader to establish and expand key partnerships with OEMs in the medical device sector while also exploring strategic opportunities in other verticals/industries (including research institutions and universities). This role is ideal for a highly motivated individual contributor who can build and execute a BD strategy, fostering long-term relationships that drive adoption.

The ideal candidate has experience selling sub-systems or components to medical device OEMs, understands complex sales cycles involving deep technical discussions, and is comfortable navigating early-stage product adoption. This role is not purely focused on sales volume and will be structured around Management by Objectives (MBOs), such as forming strategic partnerships and industry positioning for the long-term success of our evolving business.

Responsibilities:

  • Business Development & Market Expansion:
  • Identify, engage, and cultivate relationships with decision-makers in medical device OEMs, particularly in R&D and strategy teams.
  • Develop and execute a structured, milestone-driven business development strategy.
  • Drive strategic partnerships, licensing deals, and other collaboration opportunities.
  • Educate potential customers on the value of the technology and its competitive advantages.
  • Lead negotiations and secure agreements that position us for long-term success.
  • Establish key design wins in research institutes and universities, ensuring industry adoption beyond immediate sales.
  • Sales Process & Growth Strategy:
  • Work on a broad range of business objectives, beyond direct sales, including market positioning and technology adoption.
  • Develop strategic relationships that will set us up for long-term success, balancing sales with supply chain capacity.
  • Define and refine the company’s go-to-market strategy based on market feedback.
  • Track and report key BD milestones and performance indicators aligned with defined MBOs.
  • Technical & Industry Expertise:
  • Possess a fundamental understanding of mechanical and electrical sub-system/component integrations.
  • Develop a deep understanding of our 3D tracking technology and its applications in the medical field.
  • Understand and communicate customer requirements for medical device regulations, manufacturing processes, and quality systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, product, and operations) to ensure product integration, manufacturing, and operational success.

Qualifications:

  • 5–10 years of experience in business development, with a focus on selling sub-systems, components, or enabling technologies to OEMs.
  • Experience navigating multiphase, complex sales cycles with R&D and strategy teams.
  • Strong technical acumen, capable of articulating technology value propositions.
  • Proven ability to drive new market penetration and establish strategic relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and grow into a leadership role as the business scales.
  • Willingness to travel extensively within the US and possibly abroad.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the medical technology sector, particularly working with medical device OEMs.
  • Background in engineering, product development, or manufacturing related to high-tech systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory landscapes affecting medical device components.
  • Prior experience working in a startup or high-growth environment.

Salary and Benefits:

  • $120K Base or greater, DOE + Equity structure for commissions + MBO (Bonus for hitting certain goals besides sales)
