Business Development Director – Laboratory Service Contracts

Location: South East USA – Home Based (must live within the territory)

Territory: North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee

Travel: Up to 50%

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a specialist provider of laboratory services to recruit an experienced Business Development Director – Laboratory Service Contracts to drive new business growth across the South East region of the United States.

This is a standalone, commercially focused business development position, offering an excellent opportunity for an ambitious laboratory services sales professional with an established understanding of the laboratory equipment services market.

Our client provides specialist laboratory equipment service solutions and maintenance agreements to organisations operating across a broad range of industries, including Life Sciences, Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, Energy, Petrochemical, Food & Beverage and other laboratory-intensive sectors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, developing and securing new business opportunities for laboratory equipment service contracts, building relationships with customers at every level of the organisation, from bench-level laboratory scientists and chemists through to Laboratory Managers, Procurement, Finance and C-suite decision-makers.

This is a genuine new business sales role, suited to someone who enjoys developing a territory, opening doors, building a strong pipeline and converting opportunities into long-term commercial agreements.

The role is home based, but candidates must live within the territory and be comfortable travelling extensively, with up to 50% travel required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, target and secure new business opportunities for laboratory equipment service contracts and third-party service agreements across the South East USA.
  • Develop and execute a territory sales strategy to maximise new customer acquisition and revenue growth.
  • Proactively identify organisations with laboratory equipment service requirements across Life Sciences, Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, Energy, Petrochemical, Food & Beverage and other relevant sectors.
  • Build and develop relationships with laboratory end users, including bench-level chemists, scientists and technical personnel, through to Laboratory Managers, Heads of Laboratories, Procurement, Finance and C-suite executives.
  • Understand customer laboratory environments, equipment requirements and operational challenges to identify opportunities for service contract sales.
  • Promote the value of laboratory equipment maintenance, servicing, preventative maintenance programmes and third-party service agreements.
  • Identify opportunities to displace incumbent service providers and convert customers to alternative service contract solutions.
  • Develop a strong pipeline of qualified prospects through proactive prospecting, networking, referrals, industry events and direct customer engagement.
  • Manage the complete sales cycle, from initial prospecting and customer engagement through to technical discussions, proposal development, commercial negotiation and contract closure.
  • Work closely with internal technical and service delivery teams to develop tailored service proposals that meet customer requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations, proposals and commercial agreements, demonstrating the value and benefits of the service offering.
  • Negotiate pricing, contract terms and service agreements to secure profitable new business.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, sales forecasts and pipeline reporting.
  • Monitor competitor activity, market developments and customer trends to identify new opportunities for growth.
  • Achieve agreed new business revenue, sales and territory development targets.

We are particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have experience selling laboratory equipment service contracts, maintenance agreements or third-party laboratory service solutions.

Ideally, you will have worked for an organisation such as:

  • Agilent Technologies
  • Waters Corporation
  • Or a similar laboratory equipment manufacturer or specialist service provider.

We would also consider candidates currently working for independent third-party laboratory service companies, particularly those with experience selling multi-brand laboratory equipment service agreements.

Alternatively, candidates with a strong background in selling high-value analytical laboratory equipment with associated service contracts, or laboratory consumables, may also be suitable, provided they can demonstrate a successful track record of new business development into laboratory environments.

You will ideally bring:
  • Proven experience in new business development within the laboratory equipment, scientific instrumentation or laboratory services sector.
  • Direct experience selling laboratory equipment service contracts, preventative maintenance agreements or third-party service agreements is highly desirable.
  • An understanding of analytical laboratory equipment, instrumentation and associated servicing requirements.
  • Experience selling into laboratory environments across multiple industry sectors.
  • The ability to engage confidently with laboratory end users and technical stakeholders, including bench-level chemists and scientists, as well as Laboratory Managers and senior procurement and finance decision-makers.
  • A demonstrable track record of winning new customers, developing sales pipelines and closing commercially significant contracts.
  • Strong prospecting, networking, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • The commercial acumen to understand service contract pricing, margins, customer requirements and contractual arrangements.
  • The ability to communicate technical service propositions and translate them into clear commercial benefits.
  • A self-motivated, proactive and results-driven approach, with the ability to manage your own territory and sales activity independently.
  • Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
Territory & Travel

The position covers the South East USA, including but not limited to: North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee.

Candidates must be based within the territory and ideally have an established network of laboratory and scientific industry contacts across the region.

This is a home-based position requiring regular customer visits and travel of up to 50%.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced laboratory services sales professional to join a specialist organisation with the opportunity to develop a significant territory and generate new business across a diverse range of laboratory-intensive industries.

If you have experience selling laboratory equipment service contracts, third-party service agreements or associated scientific instrumentation, and enjoy the challenge of winning new business, we would be very interested in hearing from you.
