Job description

Product Sales Specialist – Analytical Instruments

Based in Phoenix | Territory covering Phoenix through to the West Coast | 70% Travel

Enjoy the science, but want a career beyond the laboratory?

A growing, privately owned manufacturer of analytical instruments is looking for a Product Sales Specialist to develop its business across the western US.

This could be an excellent opportunity for a chemistry graduate or laboratory professional who enjoys working with people and wants to take their scientific knowledge into a commercial role. Previous sales experience is welcome, but your scientific understanding, confidence and initiative matter more.

The business

The company manufactures analytical instruments used to measure and assess biological samples, supporting customers across universities, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and research laboratories.

With an established product range, ambitious growth plans and a small US team, it offers the opportunity to take real responsibility and see the impact of your contribution.

The role

Based in Phoenix, you will cover a territory extending through to the West Coast, working with distributor partners and laboratory customers to grow sales.

The company sells through distributors, so a key part of your role will be building relationships with their sales representatives, helping them understand the technology and supporting them in front of customers.

You will:

  • Train and support distributor sales teams, helping them identify opportunities and confidently position the instruments.
  • Join distributor representatives on customer visits and support technical and commercial discussions.
  • Demonstrate instruments and explain their benefits in relation to customers' laboratory workflows.
  • Build relationships with scientists, laboratory managers and purchasing decision-makers.
  • Follow up on leads, demonstrations and quotations to move opportunities towards a sale.
  • Attend exhibitions, distributor events and customer meetings.
  • Plan your territory activity, maintain accurate records and take ownership of follow-through.
Who are we looking for?
Chemistry graduates are particularly encouraged to apply.

Experience using UV-Vis spectrophotometers or similar analytical instruments-in university, research or a commercial laboratory-would give you a valuable foundation.

Degrees or practical experience in biochemistry, biology and related scientific disciplines are also relevant.

You might be starting your career, working in a laboratory and considering a change, or already building experience in scientific sales.

Alongside your scientific background, you will bring:

  • Confidence and curiosity: You enjoy meeting people, asking questions and understanding their work.
  • Clear communication: You can turn technical information into a straightforward, useful explanation.
  • Initiative and common sense: You spot what needs doing and take sensible action.
  • Ownership: You keep commitments, follow up and care about the quality of the outcome.
  • Drive and ambition: You want to learn, develop commercially and help a growing business succeed.
  • A collaborative approach: You are willing to contribute across a small team and support colleagues.

Regular travel across the territory will be part of the role, so you should enjoy spending time with customers and distributor partners.

What makes this opportunity different?
  • A route from laboratory science into a commercial career.
  • Established analytical instruments with practical applications you can understand and demonstrate.
  • A varied role combining science, relationship building, training and sales.
  • Responsibility for a significant western US territory.
  • A privately owned business where your ideas and contribution will be visible.
  • $65,000 base salary plus $20,000 on-target commission.
