Job Description

Title: School Bus Driver Substitute

Qualifications

• Effective communication and problem solving skills.
• Ability to problem solve in a fast paced work environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an educational setting.
• Regular and predictable attendance.
• Qualified to be employed as a School Bus Driver per Civil Service and NYS Education Department guidelines.
• Possession of a valid NYS Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) endorsement at the time of appointment, and maintenance of such license throughout the tenure of employment in the position.
• Ability to pass a qualifying physical exam.
• Demonstrate good eye-hand-foot coordination, and good spatial perception to enable good judgment of distance for safe and precise passing, braking, and parking.

Responsibilities

Shall include but are not limited to the following:

• Attend meetings as needed.
• Follow directives (written, oral, electronic).
• General Bus Driver assignments.
• Transport pupils safely to and from school daily, according to established routes and time schedules.
• Maintain proper student behavior on bus when driving.
• Notify the Director of Transportation of any hazardous road, bridge, or other condition which may jeopardize the safety of children being transported to/from school.
• Sweep interior of bus daily and clean headlights, signal lights, and tail lights.
• Keep bus windshields, windows, and rear view mirrors clean at all times.
• Complete a daily record sheet including mileage and any bus malfunction.
• Observe all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures regarding qualifications of bus drivers, safe operation of buses, and personal characteristics.
• Other assigned duties and/or responsibilities which may be deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
• Maintain data security as applicable.
• Maintain confidentiality with staff, student, and family information.
• Operate in a respectful, responsible manner.

Salary: School Bus Driver Substitute: $21.00/hour
