Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) in Chicago invites students to join our Building Technology Internship or Co-Op. Work alongside industry leaders in the office and field to gain hands-on experience applying classroom knowledge to real-world challenges.

You will assist with construction monitoring, observations, testing, and analysis while developing documentation for client deliverables. This paid, temporary program supports your growth in a consulting engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Students should be interested in civil and/or structural engineering.
• Maintain high grades and seek hands-on learning in a consulting environment.
• Enthusiastic about developing sophisticated engineering work products with high professionalism.
• Strong communication abilities required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, and site inspections.
• Analyze materials, support petrography staff, design test protocols, and analyze data.
• Collaborate with SGH engineers on reconnaissance, field tests, or construction progress.
• Organize field data and assist with research to facilitate analysis and repair design.
• Perform analysis under licensed supervision using hand calculations and software.
• Assist with preparing client deliverables, including construction documents and reports.
• Travel and working from heights may be required.
