Job summary

The City of Ocala is seeking a seasoned Building Official to oversee the Building and Safety Division. You will coordinate inspections for commercial, residential and industrial projects, supervise staff, and ensure compliance with Florida building codes and city ordinances.

You will lead policy development, manage budgets, and work with architects, engineers and owners to resolve complex construction issues, while advancing streamlined permit tracking systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 10 years in construction industry or related fields.
• 4 years of management experience.
• Florida Building Code Administrator certification or ability to obtain within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate organization, staffing and activities for inspections.
• Develop and implement goals, policies and priorities.
• Review construction plans for compliance with building codes.
• Direct supervision of inspectors and staff.
• Coordinate automated permit tracking and inspection tracking systems.
• Ensure enforcement of building codes and city ordinances.
