Job summary

Clermont County Community and Economic Development is seeking a County Building Inspector / Chief Building Official to lead the Building Inspection Division. The role requires licensure as an Architect or Engineer and extensive inspection experience in a county setting.

You will supervise staff, enforce local regulations and state codes, and guide the division toward compliant, efficient service delivery. A valid driver’s license and BBS certifications are required.

Qualifications

Registered Architect or Professional Engineer in a design or construction field.
3 years of paid work experience in Building Inspection and Plan Exams.
10 years in commercial general contracting, foreman, or site superintendent overseeing trades.
6 years building department experience and completion of Ohio BBS Level 3 requirements.
Must maintain Ohio certifications and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Manage performance and outcomes of staff in permit, inspection, and engineering divisions.
Enforce local building regulations and state codes adopted by the Board of County Commissioners.
Set goals, metrics, and supervise hiring, discipline, evaluations, and training.
Direct departmental inventory control, risk management, and records retention.
Collaborate across departments to resolve issues and lead cross‑training.
