Job summary

The City of Bartow is seeking a progressive Building Official to lead the Building Department, balancing technical construction expertise with exceptional customer service. This role directs permitting and inspection services for a growing Central Florida community and oversees transitions from contracted to in-house operations.

Ideal candidates bring extensive knowledge of construction, permitting, and inspection standards, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum of four years of higher education in construction, engineering, architecture, building technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional public experience in Building Inspection, Design, Construction, or a related field; or up to five years of post-secondary construction education with 10 years of work experience.
• Five years of supervisory experience in a senior capacity.
• Florida DBPR licensing as Building Code Administrators within six months of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Direct the City’s Building Department, directing planning, permitting, and inspection services.
• Lead the transition from contracted services to an in-house model.
• Provide customer-focused leadership with clear communication and issue resolution.
• Develop efficient work processes and promote continuous service improvement.
