Job summary

City of Auburn (AL) is seeking a Plan Reviewer to conduct comprehensive building plans examination for new construction, alterations, repairs, and other projects to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances. This position reports to the Permitting Division Manager.

Duties include coordinating submittal and permit issuance, assisting with complex cases, maintaining records, and helping contractors with code interpretation and procedures to promote efficient service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; 1–3 years’ experience.
• ICC certification within one year of employment, plus two additional ICC certifications within two years.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Review commercial and residential construction documents for code compliance.
• Assist contractors and design professionals with questions concerning codes and procedures.
• Maintain and update inspection records, project documentation, and permit tracking databases.
• Plan, organize, and facilitate the building plan submittal, approval, and permit issuance process.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
