Job summary

City of Tampa is seeking qualified Professionals to review residential and commercial construction plans for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances. You will evaluate plans, interpret regulations, and communicate findings to engineers and architects.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor’s degree in building construction, engineering, architecture or related field and five years of experience in building architecture and engineering activities.
• Equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing the job-related competencies.
• Additional levels II–IV require progressively more experience in plan examination and ordinance administration.
• Levels II–IV add experience requirements for plan examination and ordinance administration or professional registration.

Responsibilities

• Examine construction documents for conformity with building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, gas and flood control codes and ordinances and communicate results to design professionals.
• Provide technical assistance to owners and public agencies; help resolve complaints and interpret inspections results.
• Attend field inspections and contribute to quality assurance and uniform code administration.
• Perform studies of municipal code matters and prepare reports; interpret blueprints and electrical drawings; maintain records and control logs.
• Perform related work as required.
