Job summary
The City of Rochester Hills seeks a qualified Building Plans Examiner and Inspector to review building plans and perform on-site inspections ensuring compliance with adopted codes and ordinances. The role includes documentation, permit tracking, and enforcing code requirements.
You will coordinate with contractors, owners, and design professionals, educate stakeholders, and maintain electronic inspection records.
Qualifications
- Requires an associate degree in a related field with 3+ years of related experience or a high school diploma with 6+ years of related experience.
- State of Michigan registration as Plans Examiner and Building Inspector under Act 407.
- ICC Residential and Commercial Plan Reviewer and Inspector certification within 24 months of hire.
Responsibilities
- Review residential and commercial construction plans for code compliance.
- Conduct on-site inspections to verify drawings meet codes and ordinances.
- Inspect for compliance with program like CDBG.
- Maintain electronic records of inspections and plan reviews.
- Educate stakeholders on code requirements and permit conditions.
- Provide interpretation of codes to professionals and the public.
