Job summary

The Salvation Army A Georgia Corp in Miami, FL is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to oversee day-to-day upkeep of divisional HQ, officers' quarters, vehicles, grounds, and equipment. You will plan, schedule, and supervise staff, ensuring preventive maintenance and safety standards are met across facilities.

Qualifications

  • Two years coursework from a vocational or technical school in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or construction trades.
  • 3–5 years of progressive maintenance/repair experience for commercial buildings and grounds.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory role overseeing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, supervises, and monitors day-to-day general maintenance of buildings.
  • Oversees preventative maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and utility equipment and inspections of vehicles and appliances.
  • Supervises maintenance of structures and decor; coordinates construction and renovation projects.
  • Keeps Salvation Army fleet vehicles maintained and manages warranties and vendor contracts.
  • Participates in loss control and safety programs; ensures compliance with SOPs and safety standards.

Schedule/Hours: M – F 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week)

This position is responsible for:

  • Plans, schedules, supervises, and monitors the day-to-day general maintenance and repair of buildings to include Divisional Headquarters, Officer’s quarters, vehicles, grounds, and equipment; assists in negotiating, supervising, and monitoring of all contracted maintenance services; ensures all equipment remains in proper working order and compliance with standard operating procedures and safety standards; participate in more difficult repair work; operates a Salvation Army vehicle to pick-up and/or deliver materials; maintains an inventory of all Salvation Army property.
Key responsibilities:
  • Plans, prioritizes, and schedules the work of staff performing maintenance.
  • Plans, prioritizes, supervises, and monitors the preventative maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, utility equipment, and appliances; schedules and conducts routine inspections of vehicles, kitchen appliances, maintenance tools and equipment, as well as heat and air conditioning, elevators, telephone, security and fire alarm systems on a routine basis to ensure the long life of the same.
  • Supervises and participates in the maintenance of structures, fixtures, and decor through additions, repairs, adjustments, painting or replacement.
  • Supervises the maintenance and security of Salvation Army fleet of vehicles; ensures proper preventative maintenance and repairs at reasonable costs.
  • Assists in reviewing, monitoring, and maintaining all product warranties and guarantees to ensure maintenance and repair work is conducted in compliance with the same.
  • Participates in loss control and safety programs to improve and control injury and loss experiences.
  • Opens/closes building as scheduled; raises and lowers all flags daily; displays special signs as needed.
  • Assists in supervising all construction and renovation projects.
  • Performs other related work as required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to ensure the proper maintenance, repair, and security of buildings, grounds, and related equipment.
  • Ability to supervise, prioritize, motivate, monitor, and evaluate the work of subordinate maintenance employees.
  • Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments.
  • Ability to negotiate, supervise, and monitor contract maintenance services.
  • Ability to remain certified on Salvation Army vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
  • Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
  • Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU
  • Two years course work from a vocational or technical school in heating, ventilation, and air condition, plumbing, electrical, and construction trades, AND
  • Three to five years progressively responsible experience performing skilled maintenance and repair work for commercial buildings and grounds with at least two years in a supervisory capacity, OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Valid State Driver’s License
