Job summary

The Salvation Army in Sarasota, FL is seeking a maintenance technician to perform repairs on structures and fixtures and to troubleshoot and service mechanical systems and vehicles. You will support preventative maintenance programs and operate company vehicles and forklifts as required.

Two years of vocational training and three years of related experience are preferred, with state driver's license and compliance with safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• Two years of coursework in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or construction trades.
• Three years of progressively responsible maintenance/repair experience in commercial buildings.
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Repair building structures, walls, floors, ceilings, cabinets, and furniture as needed.
• Troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical systems and perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Monitor preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and appliance systems; inspect and maintain equipment and tools.
• Safely operate Salvation Army vehicles, forklifts and related equipment; complete training as required.
• Assist with janitorial/housekeeping tasks and ensure work complies with policies.

Job Details: Job Location: FLA-Sarasota Area Command - Sarasota, FL 34236, Position Type: Full Time Regular, Education Level: Some College , Salary Range: $24.00, Travel Percentage: Greater than 50%, Job Shift: Day, Job Category: Property, Schedule: 40 hours/week

Key Responsibilities:

• Constructs and performs minor to more complex repairs of building structures, walls, floors, ceilings, cabinets, and furniture when needed.
• Troubleshoots and repairs minor mechanical malfunctions and performs preventative maintenance on vehicles, dishwashers, laundry machines, vent fans, etc.; performs minor adjustments; lubricates and cleans vehicles and/or equipment; conducts the maintenance of Salvation Army vehicles; ensures proper preventative maintenance and repairs that cannot be done in house at reasonable costs.
• Participates in, and monitors the preventative maintenance (PMP) of all mechanical, electrical, utility equipment, and appliances; conducts routine inspections of kitchen appliances, FRS residences maintenance tools and equipment, as well as heat and air conditioning, , telephone, security and fire alarm systems on a routine basis to ensure the long life of the same.
• Safely operates a Salvation Army box truck, bus or forklift and maintains current training requirements.
• Participates in performing maintenance, janitorial, and/or housekeeping work; monitors work in progress and upon completion ensures accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

Qualifications: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Two years course work from a vocational or technical school in heating, ventilation, and air condition, plumbing, electrical, and construction trades,
• And
• three years progressively responsible experience performing skilled maintenance and repair work for commercial buildings and grounds
• Or
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

• Valid State Driver’s license
