Job summary

The Salvation Army in Miami, FL seeks a Maintenance Supervisor to manage the daily upkeep of Divisional Headquarters, officers’ quarters, vehicles, grounds, and equipment. You will supervise staff, schedule preventive maintenance, and ensure adherence to safety standards.

You will also oversee contracted services, maintain warranties, and participate in loss control while ensuring timely repairs and reliable facility and fleet operations.

Qualifications

• Two years of coursework from a vocational or technical school in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and construction trades.
• Three to five years of progressively responsible maintenance and repair experience for commercial buildings.
• Supervisory experience of staff preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, supervise and monitor day-to-day maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.
• Oversee contracted maintenance services and ensure safety compliance.

Job Location: FLA-Miami Area Command - Miami, FL 33142

Job Category: Property

Schedule/Hours: M – F 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week)

This position is responsible for:

• Plans, schedules, supervises, and monitors the day-to-day general maintenance and repair of buildings to include Divisional Headquarters, Officer’s quarters, vehicles, grounds, and equipment.
• Assists in negotiating, supervising, and monitoring of all contracted maintenance services.
• Ensures all equipment remains in proper working order and compliance with standard operating procedures and safety standards.
• Participates in more difficult repair work.
• Operates a Salvation Army vehicle to pick-up and/or deliver materials.
• Maintains an inventory of all Salvation Army property.

Key responsibilities

• Plans, prioritizes, and schedules the work of staff performing maintenance.
• Plans, prioritizes, supervises, and monitors the preventative maintenance of mechanical, electrical, utility equipment, and appliances; schedules and conducts routine inspections of vehicles, kitchen appliances, maintenance tools and equipment, as well as heat and air conditioning, elevators, telephone, security and fire alarm systems on a routine basis to ensure the long life of the same.
• Supervises and participates in the maintenance of structures, fixtures, and decor through additions, repairs, adjustments, painting or replacement.
• Supervises the maintenance and security of Salvation Army fleet of vehicles; ensures proper preventative maintenance and repairs at reasonable costs.
• Assists in reviewing, monitoring, and maintaining all product warranties and guarantees to ensure maintenance and repair work is conducted in compliance with the same.
• Participates in loss control and safety programs to improve and control injury and loss experiences.
• Opens/closes building as scheduled; raises and lowers all flags daily; displays special signs as needed.
• Assists in supervising all construction and renovation projects.
• Performs other related work as required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to ensure the proper maintenance, repair, and security of buildings, grounds, and related equipment.
• Ability to supervise, prioritize, motivate, monitor, and evaluate the work of subordinate maintenance employees.
• Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments.
• Ability to negotiate, supervise, and monitor contract maintenance services.
• Ability to remain certified on Salvation Army vehicle insurance.
• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
• Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
• Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
• Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to weather changes and discomforts such as rain, cold, snow, heat, noise, dust, and dirt.

What We Are Looking For In You

• Two years of coursework from a vocational or technical school in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and construction trades, AND
• Three to five years progressively responsible experience performing skilled maintenance and repair work for commercial buildings and grounds with at least two years in a supervisory capacity, OR
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
