Primary Purpose

The Building Maintenance Mechanical Specialist performs technical installation, repair, and maintenance of ESC buildings, including the acquisition and monitoring of required specializedassistance, equipment, or mechanical operating systems.

Education/Certification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current and valid driver’s license
  • HVAC maintenance certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Mustpossessa basic knowledge of facilities maintenance including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC systems, andgroundscare.
  • Knowledge of minor repair techniques for conference room tables and chairs.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with ESC staff and outside presenters.
  • Applicable building, fire, and electrical codes
  • Organize, set priorities, and exercise sound judgment within areas of responsibility
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing

Experience

  • Three years prior experience in facilities maintenance is preferred.

**This position may be partially or completely funded using grant and/or federal monies and is assigned programs to include activities designed to enhance the effective and coordinated use of funds.

  • Activelyparticipatein and /or leadership of the inter-department team to help improve student performance in the region, improve the center's internal operations, and meet the established goals andobjectivesfor the Center.
  • Work collaboratively with the Building & Facilities Manager; act as a proxy in the manager’s absence.
  • Assistwith the opening and closing of the building when needed.
  • Inspect and service restrooms as needed during the workday.
  • Diagnose problems and make repairs or work withappropriate contractors, and other repair personnel to resolve issues that arise with facilities and equipment.
  • Assistwith developing, implementing, andmaintainingboth routine and specialized maintenance schedules and policies for all operating systems and equipment.
  • Monitor, repair, install, and perform routine maintenance on associated equipment, including, but not limited to the HVAC, water pumps, generators, and other mechanical operating systems. This includes preventative maintenance programs and procedures.
  • Help with room resets as needed.
  • Represent the Center in a positive manner by driving company vehicles safely & responsibly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Equipment/Specialized Software Used

Scissor lift, one-man lift, scaffolding, all hand and power tools, auto scrubber for tile floors, vacuum cleaners, carpet extractor, and other hardware necessary to perform the functions of the job effectively and efficiently.

Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors)

Mental: Public relations and people skills are alwaysrequired, work with frequent interruptions, andmaintainprofessional composure and confidentiality under stress.

Physical: Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Continual walking and standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.

Environmental: This could include working outside and inside the facility, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders; and exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, and toxic chemicals and materials.

Evaluation

Annual performance evaluation will be performedin accordance withthe adopted policies of the Education Service Center Region 11. Employment in this position is contingent upon performance, need, and funding.
