Job summary

Doña Ana County is seeking a Building Inspector to perform inspections for new and remodeled construction, ensuring compliance with county, state, and federal codes. The role requires analyzing changes of occupancy, determining required permits, and maintaining inspection records.

Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma, and meet NM CID and ICC certifications within the specified timeframes; a valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of foreman experience in general construction.
  • NM CID Building Inspector certification within three months of hire and ICC Residential/Commercial Building Inspector certification within one year.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect industrial, commercial, and residential buildings during construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances.
  • Analyze buildings undergoing changes of use/occupancy and provide viable alternatives to achieve compliance.
  • Determine extent of damage and permits required to repair.
  • Prepare reports and maintain files of inspections and issue permits and citations.
  • Coordinate and schedule inspection requests and provide quality customer service.
  • Conduct pre- and post-installation site checks for compliance with skirting and setback requirements for mobile and manufactured homes.
